By far the biggest expense involved in tank maintenance is replacing coil heads. If you do without this hassle, would you be tempted to buy a tank that costs $120? You would save the difference between that and a $40 in a few months, but vapers (like most consumers) are not always keen to make a big change when they’re so used to what they know, and the Guo Vape Altus Tank represents a big change indeed.
The Future of Vaping?
Altus insists this is the future of vaping with their new coil-free system. The first release has sold out, so you have time to think about whether you want to buy the product or ask a wealthy friend to buy one for you. Measurements of 22.5 x 22.5 mm make this a compact and compatible tank for use with most of your box and many of your tube mods for sub ohm cloud chasing.
The CVU Chip
It took GUO Vape two years to develop this tank using a material from Silicon Valley according to the manufacturer. A center vaping unit (a.k.a. CVU) chip is supposedly long lasting and the US has given it several patents.
I don’t know how anyone can pledge that a unit will last for several years when it hasn’t been around very long, but that is what the makers insist to be true. It’s not outside the realms of believability that their produce is as sturdy as they say and a one-year warranty will convince most people of their confidence.
More CVU Info
I would love it if the makers of this tank stopped referring to “this material” so we could tell you what it is but apparently designers had solid state heaters in mind while they were also aware of its inherent safety compared with coils.
The CVU will not burn out or release toxic fumes and it maintains steady resistance once reaching the temperature you want. There is no metal in the CVU, so flavor from this supposedly neutral chip is supposedly excellent.
Don’t dry burn the CVU or your warranty is no longer valid. There is extra surface area here to provide balanced heat and superior vapor production while using less e juice than you might expect, making the Altus cost efficient in another way besides saving money by not using coils. Because of its resistance to extremely high temperatures, feel free to vape the Altus as a TC or VW mod. You will achieve about 0.5 ohms resistance.
Last Words on the Guo Vape Altus
The Altus features gold-plated connectors. A kit contains O-rings and cotton. The terminals are gold-plated. Choose an airflow control setting and temperatures from 300F to 480F. The short tank section is made from Pyrex but the drip tip doesn’t get a mention.
Two images show two different tips, suggesting it’s removable. The one it appears to be fitted with is a wide-bore metal tip which you can replace with a softer Delrin tip, stylish hand-blown glass item, or just a different sort of metal style if you prefer. A matching stainless steel piece completes Guo Vape’s sleek lines.
Would I Buy It?
I like being able to change my coils, this is part of the fun of using a sub ohm vape tank. Vapers with 200W TC machines aren’t practical people; we have other things in mind like customizing coils.
