Historically, Krixus was a Roman slave trained to become a gladiator. His connection to Spartacus and to the violent Roman Empire might not ring any bells with many consumers, but the name “Krixus” probably has you thinking and wondering.
Is this another nod to ancient culture as seen in names like the Pegasus, Nautilus, and Atlantis by Aspire?
Horizon demonstrates a continued fascination with European ancient history by naming their next important product the Krixus.
Horizon Krixus Tank
Horizon’s reputation has strengthened in the last 12 months with the release of their Arctic and Phantom tanks. The Krixus ceramic RTA boasts the same attention to detail; the same durability of design; but also aggressive styling unique among sub ohm tanks.
Horizon utilizes Tungsten wire and organic cotton from Japan, both suitable for TC vaping. Of all metals, Tungsten requires the highest temperature to melt and resists corrosion. It’s among the most stable metals and, thus, perfect for high temperature vaping.
Why didn’t other firms think of it, and does the use of Tungsten make the Krixus more expensive? We’ll see if the idea catches on. Tungsten isn’t available from just any vape vendor the way Kanthal is. Even Titanium is easier to come by.
Formidable Rebuildable Tank
Every part of the Horizon Krixus Tank can be replaced or rebuilt including the coil and tube. Change your coil build from Variable Wattage to Temperature Control-compatible; select a different resistance; take out broken glass and add a new tube. Replace O-rings or screws.
Various intake holes through the center lend this tank the look of medieval weaponry. Airflow adjustment is built into the base and top is capped with a wide mouthpiece. External hardware is black and imposing.
Mid-Range Capacity
The Krixus is not a massive tank: more short and solid-looking; muscular rather than elegant. It holds up to 4 ml of e liquid which isn’t a ton given the amount of e juice a person can get through at 100 watts. That’s okay though because refills are conducted at the top, not the bottom.
Okay: you can refill from the base if you want to, I’m sure. Where there’s a will, there’s a way. The point is most vapers don’t want to remove their tank from the mod every couple of hours. This can be messy and increases the risk of dropping the tank, causing the glass to crack or smash.
It’s also a hassle, plain and simple. With refills at the top, it doesn’t matter how quickly e juice is vaporized although temperature control vaping is more economical than variable watt usage.
Resistance Range
The lowest resistance available to users of the Krixus is 0.3 ohms. According to smart people with an understanding of chemistry, Tungsten is an interesting metal. When you heat it, resistance drops.
Cool it down and resistance rises. In other words, the build is only part of establishing resistance. If you are familiar with Titanium and Nickel 200, there’s still lots to learn when you start applying Tungsten to atomizer tanks.
Nitty Gritty Numbers
With the mouthpiece and threading area included, a Horizon Krixus measures 63.5 mm tall and about 22 mm wide. The height is surprisingly conservative and width is standard. Each package comes with a ceramic coil, Tungsten wire, a replaceable 510 tip, Japanese organic cotton, and a glass tank.
