Older, much-loved vape tank styles don’t go away; they just retreat to the shadows while designers give them a makeover. That is what happened with the Kanger Protank. Kanger never forgot about this customer favorite which had already been improved twice after its original release.
Instead of abandoning their product to succumb to obscurity, they upgraded this item it so it is now even better than before and virtually nothing like the old Protank. Let’s compare the Kanger Protank 3 and Protank 4.
Tank Measurements
The Protank 3 measures 49 x 19 mm without the drip tip, so possibly 59 mm with it. V.4 measures 65.5 x 22 mm presumably with the tip. The Protank 4 is larger and wider to accommodate a few new features, but is also looks more substantial because the glass is reinforced with more metal and the mouthpiece is black, not silver. It’s more industrial and imposing in this new form.
Threading Style
Both of these Protank tanks are 510-threaded. In fact, this is the first of Kanger’s tank series to be threaded thus, so either one is suitable for use with an APV or box mod without adding an eGo-to-510 adapter.
E Juice Capacity
Kanger effectively doubles their e juice capacity with this new release. While the first one could hold up to 2.5 ml, the Protank 4 is reportedly capable of containing 5 ml of e liquid. That would account for much of the size difference although an additional child lock system might have also taken up some of that space.
Customization Comparison
Kanger adds the airflow adjustment feature but not just in the bottom cap. They allow vapers to adjust airflow at the top as well so both vapor and temperature can be customized. Whereas the Kanger Protank 3 was really only suitable for APVs up to 15 watts capable of supporting low-resistance coils, the Protank 4 is more of a sub ohm, advanced sort of accessory.
Coil builds include ceramic, stainless steel organic cotton, and Nickel 200 for Temperature Control applications. Version 3 was designed to handle all of these options which weren’t even around when the Protank 3 was first released although coils were replaceable.
Top and Side Fill
Don’t take the Protank 4 off of a mod to fill it from the bottom. That’s a waste of time and you have to undo the bottom cap too. E juice drips out of the top and you’ve got a mess to clean up too. With this new design, consumers choose from two filling options: the side or the top. Reduce the effort and time you would have spent replacing vaporized e juice throughout the day. Besides being easier to fill, Version 4 holds more e juice than Version 3 in the first place.
New Ceramic Heads
Ceramics are clean, durable, and long-lasting. The addition of ceramic atomizer heads could change the way you experience vapor. Experience pure flavor. Don’t change coil heads nearly as often, either, since ceramics tend to last far longer than metal coils of any type. They make a great investment.
Sophisticated Addition
Back in the “old days” (two years ago), customers had to buy an RDA in order to build their own coils. These were fussy to complete and required a lot of skill plus small fingers and a magnifying glass in some instances.
Customers can now rebuild coils for their tanks, including the Protank 4. This comes with a Velocity-type deck and a dual Clapton coil. Clapton coils extend how much metal makes contact with e juice. More contact means more vapor.
