Say, just for argument’s sake, that you only want to buy the Kanger KBOX and not the Subtank that fits so nicely with it. Most places you look online, including Kanger, show the two together as a SUBOX kit. The Kanger KBOX Mini Mod 50W is available independently of the Subtank this summer on a pre-order basis for about $45, although you might still prefer the proffered pairing.

KBOX Mini Mod Features

At just 82 mm long and made from a zinc alloy, this variable watt box feels light and seems small compared with the heavy-duty performance it is capable of. Do not underestimate the Kanger KBOX. This 50W Mini MOD offers the option of 7 to 50 watts of output in increments of 0.1W. It uses a 20A battery or better and provides a bright, easily readable screen.

Removable Battery

One reason the Kanger KBOX Mini MOD 50W feels so light at first touch is that there is no battery inside. Choose an 18650 cell, remove the magnetic door, and place the battery inside without screws or fuss. You can also keep that battery inside the KBOX Mini MOD and recharge it using a USB port located on the front base, not underneath the mod, which is a convenient location.

With the port on a front face, this Kanger mod will stand up with a tank attached if you are using it as a pass-through vaporizer while it is plugged into your computer, recharging slowly. Alternatively, replace drained batteries with fresh ones and vape wirelessly or recharge the KBOX while switching to a different device.

Protect Yourself

Kanger protects users and their machinery with a PCB capable of several functions. Not only does the tiny interior brain operate your screen but it also detects resistance, low voltage, reverse battery, and a short circuit.

If any of these issues come up your Kanger device switches off or brings the power down depending on the problem. The screen shows a message to indicate the danger. You can’t vape for more than 10 seconds at a time and you won’t overheat as a result, although overheating will be detected. A hot KBOX will automatically power down.

Stark Contrast

Few colors create as dramatic a contrast as deep red against rich black, like drops of blood against a vampire’s tuxedo.

Kanger’s KBOX Mini MOD 50W is a black device with one rounded side to make holding it for long periods of time feel comfortable and natural. There are three red, raised buttons. The top one is an on/off, lock-unlock button while the other two are for turning watts up and down.

Between them is one of the clearest screens you will ever see on a box mod, showing a battery icon with charge level indicated. Resistance in ohms sits above volts, both of them in very small letters/numbers. Your wattage level dominates the screen.

Pair with the Subtank

Even though the Kanger SUBOX is available as a kit with the Mini Subtank and you could have just bought that from the start, you chose to order the Mod on its own and use it with another tank like the Atlantis or an Arctic by Horizon.

Eventually, though, it might seem that the Subtank was perfect for the KBOX all along and it really is a great sub-ohm tank; among the first hybrid RTAs. Kanger gives you multiple options for vaping at various resistance levels. Select the Subtank Mini with its 0.5-ohm and 1.2-ohm coils or install the RBA you build to personal specifications.
