Are you looking for a masculine piece of vaping machinery? One with an industrial, no-nonsense feel to it and an association with the darker mythology of Tolkien’s imagination?

The UD Balrog 70w TC Vape Mod has the looks, but does it offer the performance you want at an affordable price?

UD Balrog 70w TC

Well, let’s start with the price. Vendors are offering it for $50 or less as part of a kit with the tank. It does not come with a battery but the RBA is included and, with 70W output, that’s not a bad deal, especially when temperature control is one of the features as well. Consumers also feel at ease with the Youde brand, although the name is better known for tanks than for mods. It looks like Youde has created a convenient starter set that’s user-friendly and covered in the usual high-tech options.

UD Balrog 70W TC Features

Youde or UD are offering the mid-range here as far as wattage is concerned. Vapers have discovered that, with temperature control, a maximum of 200 watts isn’t necessary in order to achieve maximum temperature variation. Average consumers who still love to dabble with wattage control would consider 40 watts about right for an average day, so the 70W UD Balrog gives them some leeway: from 5W to 70W. It won’t overheat at any rate, thanks to built-in safeguards.

If you operate with an atomizer that accepts TC coils (which is virtually every sub ohm product on the market) then you can use the Balrog in TC mode from 95C to 315C. Install a Ni200 or Titanium coil and set temperature to your desired rate. The machine will adjust your wattage according to a rate that operates at your chosen threshold. It also reads your atomizer resistance to prevent firing at ohms too low or too high for the system to handle, thus preventing a short circuit or melt down.

Comfortable Construction

This black unit is constructed from a zinc alloy that is smooth on the outside and also smoothly shaped to fit snugly into a vaper’s hand. The back portion inside your palm takes the shape of a tubular battery. Install a single 18650-rated cell from among those featuring good safety reviews, low operating temperature, reasonable amps, and acceptable battery life. With a 70W unit, it’s no problem to compromise on amps in order to obtain more milliamp hours. There is a USB port on board and also a magnetic door to cover the compartment.

Buttons are interesting. Below the screen there are two little silver ones: up and down. At the top where your index finger naturally wants to settle is the power and mod switch. This is a large piece shaped like a Gameboy or a bat with a raised portion at the top/center, all of it black and made from the same material as the rest of the Balrog.

Display

Read the OLED screen to remind yourself of the settings you chose and to determine if the battery is keeping up. Reverse the screen if you are left-handed to read battery power, resistance, output, temperature, and voltage.

Unique Element

One thing you don’t see every day on a 70W mod is the anti-condensation feature of this device. A condensation collection ring captures e liquid and absorbs it while you operate your mod. Presumably this is part of the machine itself, not the Balrog tank.

Balrog Tank

As part of a Balrog kit, consumers also receive an atomizer tank. This is what UD does best. Their coils contain organic cotton and take a vertical shape to provide maximum contact between the element and your e juice. Mesh is installed to stop e juice from spitting back. The Balrog mod accommodates TC coils as low as 0.1 ohms (0.2 in VW mode), so set up the Balrog tank accordingly.
