A much quoted slogan from HOHM Wrecker of Los Angeles, CA is this: “we are not in a watts war, we’re in an efficiency and ‘doing it right’ war.” Why say that? The team at HOHM is responding to questions about high wattage and also that peculiar “151W” maximum output.

No one else has ever been this precise before, although I suspect the choice is also a gimmick of sorts; an attention-grabbing scheme which might distract vapers from Chinese products by SMOK and Sigelei like their 200W vape mods.

The FSK Chip

I would like to know more about this chip which operates using dual 18650, 25A 18650 batteries. The web is not very helpful but I suspect more will be revealed as we get to know HOHM better (spelled HΩ). This chip permits a range of 10W to 151W and from 200F to 700F (93C to 372C). That seems excessive to me and I plan to talk a little bit more about that below.

The FSK chip also allows for resistance of 0.05 ohms and up to 3 ohms. Wattage adjustments are made by 0.1W at a time or 1C/10F increments. Install a tank that supports these levels to enjoy the best cloud-chasing potential this mod has to offer.

The HOHM Wrecker Mod Body

Take a closer look at details and dimensions of the HOHM Wrecker. It’s a little bit large at 105 mm long but strong aluminum alloy casing, CNC-machined, is light and portable. According to the company, it will withstand a drop from the 10th floor of your apartment building or office complex. I don’t know if I would try that for kicks, but that’s what the manufacturer asserts.

Maybe it sounds silly, but a drop like that is meant to simulate the force of other potential accidents which might befall your mod but are more difficult to test. High-tech magnets won’t lose their magnetic power or become rusty over time.

Precision Engineering

So, as you can see, HOHM is serious when they say they are focused on precision. Their FSK doesn’t lose control of wattage and voltage adjustments but keeps output consistent. HOHM says this increases the life of your coils and battery, and the battery is placed under less pressure.

Pressure does two things: it wears down power and it creates a potential time bomb. When the mod is being fired up it checks itself to ensure you can trust it and is especially safe in a TC setting with Ni200 coil. Circuitry is double poled and a large contact area adds to accuracy.

Screen Menu

With the TC and VW levels above, of course you need a display to show you that all is going according to plan. The HOHM Wrecker mod features a flush screen against a textured chassis of black or orange. Slightly raised black buttons are all that protect this portion from scratching. As HOHM says, the buttons are ergonomically concave-shaped, but I’d like to see some protection for the screen too.

Power Insanity?

Maximum wattage of 151W isn’t insane; there are more powerful mods out there. My concern is the temperature limit. Although HOHM insists their FSK chipset as well as special measures to safeguard against battery pressure create safety, I would say reducing the maximum temperature is a good idea too.

Vapers always have the choice to pay close attention and to stick within their comfort zone, but it’s easy to watch watts and forget that your mod is climbing past 600F, potentially to 700F. I didn’t see anything about temperature control and reverse battery protection, etc.; I don’t want to assume these are features of the HOHM Wrecker VW, TC Mod.

Yet, I wouldn’t like to put you off the purchase either since this is American manufacturing and a good start for HOHM, founded just two years ago and only winding up for more vaping innovation.
