Innokin has just made life hard for their PR department if some experts are to be credited. They are about to release a new product known as the Innokin iTC, what they refer to as the first true temperature control (TC) mod with other surprises up its sleeve. Let’s weigh the facts and, if nothing else, get a little bit excited about having another gadget to try out.
First All Wire Technology
Recently released mods such as those containing the Evolv DNA 40 and similar Yihi chips with temperature control come with this instruction: in TC mode you must use pure nickel. That would be the Ni200 nickel coil, a temperature-sensitive material which allows you to operate a mod at just 40 watts and the coil still becomes very hot without burning.
Burned coils cause electrical problems but also make e juice taste nasty. Without exception this has always been the rule. If you want to regulate temperature, the coil must be Ni200. In variable watt mode, Kanthal or Nichrome is fine.
With the Innokin iTC, you are supposed to be able to use any coil in TC mode. Kanthal is fine. Nichrome will do. Titanium works. Ni200 is an unnecessary expense. Vapers can see where controversy might spring up over such claims.
Objecting to Innokin’s Ideas
What does the vaping community have to say? They wonder if Innokin has overstated their case just a bit. For one thing, they point out that claims of introducing the first “true and accurate temperature control mod” are indirect accusations against companies like Joye and Smok. What are their eVic VTR and M80 Plus if not TC mods? What about devices which utilize the DNA 40 TC chip? Are they phonies?
Maybe the problem is in translation, changing Chinese to English accurately. Perhaps what they really mean to say is that this is the first TC mod to introduce an all-coil option to consumers and they just should have made this clearer. Maybe they want to say that this is the most accurate device of its kind with variation in Fahrenheit below anything you have ever seen before.
Innokin’s Problem
As reviewers point out, Innokin has dug a hole. If their mod fails to perform as they say it will, Innokin’s reputation isn’t going to be the same. Customers trust this brand and their reliable technology. A lot is riding on the veracity of their press release.
Innokin’s Mod
In the meantime, a few iTC mods are available on a trial basis. Vendors can apply to receive them directly from Innokin during this interim period, probably in an effort to determine if they have really cracked the TC code or not before the public gets to decide.
Aesthetically, early images show a heavy-looking box, but that’s probably just ornamentation. The screen is top-mounted: right next to the atomizer well. You will always be able to see it while vaping, which is the point. This small, bright screen shows your temperature, watts, and battery-charge icon. There is no indication yet of the price or when the iTC will be released.
