The SMOK R150 is a clean-looking box mod with a smooth and soft exterior but a hard interior. A durable frame inside the outer shell of red or white protects a PCB that allows for a wide range of operational settings.

It is also compatible with multiple atomizer tanks, including two by SMOK; the Helmet and the Minos. We will have more to say when SMOK actually releases their mod including more comments about the build apart from its extra-large firing button.

Starting from the Bottom

SMOK’s 150W tank actually begins at 6W or 200F in the Temperature Control (TC) setting. The highest temperature it’s capable of is 600F. Vapers can also select the more precise Temperature Coefficient of Resistance (TCR) if they prefer.

In the TC mode, one must add a Titanium, stainless steel, or Ni200 heating element to the RBA but Kanthal is suitable in Variable Wattage setting. In fact, you can’t use TC coils for VW vaping or you risk malfunction and the device won’t operate anyway if it detects your choice is wrong.

Moving to the Top

The SMOK R150 will typically come with a tank as part of a kit. There are two options: a Helmet tank or the Minos. Their Helmet literally looks like a motorcycle helmet. The Minos resembles a classy bit of mythological decoration.

Helmet Tank

The Helmet holds up to 2 ml of e juice and measures 2.4 mm across. It is topped with an insulated and unusual drip tip which is not straight up but gently slopes to form a triangle without a peak or, you might say, a volcano crater all in black.

The Helmet is intended for up to 60W vaping. Airflow is adjustable, fill from the top, and get a kick out of the novel design of their window to your e juice which is large, just like a real visor.

Minos Tank

The Minos is marginally larger at 25 mm and 2.5 ml with a fully transparent tank. This provides a clear view of your e juice level and is also refillable from the top. The Minos is less the tough guy’s tank and more a stylish statement. With this tank, you can get into the lower coil builds starting with 0.35 ohms.

Replace this with a 0.3-ohm RBA or your own build. Like the Helmet, this lighter, brighter rebuildable tank is topped with a crater-like mouthpiece made from an insulated material to prevent burns, produce lots of vapor, and to rest more naturally in one’s mouth.

More Options

The R150 offers atomizer recognition but that does not require you to apply either of the two tanks above. SMOK is well known for their versatile atomizer tanks such as the TCT and the TFV4. This box mod is wide enough to support the regular-sized TFV4 as opposed to the Mini, but the Mini would suit it just fine because you really care about coil build and the TFV4 Mini offers every option. A 510 pin in the well lets you also choose from many fine RBAs available from companies such as Kanger and Innokin; they aren’t control freaks up at SMOK.

Pre-Order

Right now the R150 kit, either one, is only available for pre-order. It comes out late this month, so you don’t have long to wait, but do get your order in. This is one way to be sure you receive the color you want and that you don’t wait long for your parcel to arrive.

The R150 comes packaged with a cable, but you need to add two 18650-rated batteries which will be held in their removable place by a magnetic door so that recharging is a simple matter of swapping cells and recharging them independently. That’s the faster, safer way to charge and you don’t need to pass-through vape.
